Weekend Chair Making Course
Keen to expand your knowledge of woodworking techniques and meet a community of like-minded makers, all whilst having your very own chair to take home with you?
Studio Plait, a collaborative workshop situated on an island in the middle of the River Thames presents the Weekend Chair Making Course. A unique opportunity to go from log to furniture and be guided through a range of engaging, hand-tool based techniques.
The immersive course will include splitting and draw-knifing components from an ash log, hand planing your seat and then drilling and assembling using mortise and tenon joints. Creating your own beautifully refined, contemporary take on the classic stick-chair, as well as giving you the skills and experience to make your very own designs at home.
All materials are included and you will be expertly guided (regardless of your previous level of experience) by Jacob and Cameron who between them have made over 100 chairs in the last two years. The course has a maximum of seven participants, ensuring you are supported whilst also creating a vibrant community atmosphere.
Please note, whilst snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day, lunch is not included.
Time: 10am - 5.30pm.
Date: 7th & 8th March, 2026.
Location: Unit 13, Platts Eyot, Hampton, TW12 2HF. (The workshop can be easily accessed from Hampton train station, which has direct trains to London Waterloo, Lower Sunbury Road bus station, and we also have on-site parking.)
